My son was initially very attached to me but he quickly warmed up to Savannah. By the 3rd lesson he was waiting for her to come to the door because he was so excited to go swimming with her.

So thankful for Ms. Courtney! She is patient and kind and a great instructor. We would definitely use her again.

Shelby was patient and flexible. I really appreciate how compassionate and joyful she was with our toddler. He loved swim lessons with her.

'We are very pleased with the results. Jason taught our daughter how to float, and how to propel forward with a kickboard while looking in the water. She is also no longer afraid of water splashing on her face.' ' Our adult daughter with DS can now float, put her face in the water, and propel herself using a kick-board without fear. Thank you Jason! Jason was patient, knowledgeable, and communicated with us what the expectations were from the start. We signed her up for only 6 lessons but were so impressed, we decided to enroll her for 6 more. We truly enjoyed watching our girl thrive through all 12 swimming lessons.' 'Choosing Sunsational Swim School was a given for us. The option of having the instructor come to our home and teach our daughter in our own pool was convenient. Jason was patient, and friendly. Our daughter is now able to float, put her face in the water, propel herself with a kick board, and lift herself on the side of the pool without steps. It is quite impressive to watch her. Thank you, Jason and Sunsational Swim School!!' Olga H.

Kim just completed giving my 9-month-old granddaughter her last 4 swim lessons. Her enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge instructing your children were apparent from the start. In the last lesson, my granddaughter's biggest accomplishment was climbing out of the pool from the steps! I will request her if we get more lessons next year

Judy D.

We just finished a 12 lesson package with Shawn. She is amazing!! She taught my 2 1/2 year old, and we couldn't be happier. Shawn is a natural with kids and a joy to have spent part of our summer with!

Jessica D.

We were so happy to find Sunsational Swim School and be able to have someone come to our house to teach our 3 year old grandson to swim. They picked the perfect instructor to meet our needs. Christina R understood how to work with a three year old by using songs and references from his favorite shows and characters. Our grandson did so well with the one on one lesson and is now able to swim to the side of the pool and get out on his own. Our goal for this summer was definetly accomplished.

'Ella was very patient with my son. He made so much progress compared to the first lesson. She was a great communicator, and I would have signed up for my lessons if she wasn’t off to college for the year.' - Brittany

Brittany Q.

'Neely is so awesome! She's so easy to communicate with, and she's got this calm demeanor that relaxes my nervous (almost) 2 year old enough to get in the water with her. I'm a busy full time mom, student, and business owner and was struggling with balancing all that with swimming. I thought I could do it all! But that's not the case... the whole summer went by without me finding the time to teach my baby to swim. Summer is over but that's just enough time to get a month of lessons in, my biggest regret is not starting sooner! I say all this to say, JUST HIRE A PRIVATE COACH LIKE NEELY IF YOURE BUSY!! Your mental health will thank you for it and your child will learn invaluable life lessons that are just not smart to put off on the back burner. Neely arrives on time, ready to go and is extremely flexible around both my busy schedule and the wild Texas weather changes. I hope to have Neely around for a long time! So glad to have found Sunsational!' -Rachel C.

'We're having a great experience with Sunsational Swim School. Our swim coach, Sarah, is kind and patient with our 3 yo and 8 month old swimmers. We started out with a 6 lesson package, but increased it because the girls seemed to really be thriving, and we believed more time would be beneficial to both. Our oldest has shown much progress on the safety actions and swimming overall. Our baby loves being in the water - a great first step. The company has been responsive to our inquiries as well. I highly recommend them and will use them next summer too.' - Domonique Hollins

We had a great experience with Shelby. She had a group of 3 15-18mo boys and kept them entertained the whole time. She had multiple games, songs and methods to get the boys comfortable in the water. I would highly recommend her and Sunsational

Brittany B.

We are so happy with Shawn! She has worked really hard to get to know my children and I'm amazed at what they have learned in a short period of time and she always works with our limited schedule.

Rebecca G.

Chris has been awesome! He has been so great with my 7 month old. He works with her strengths, and he is very good at finding her level of comfort. He has even taught me some things that I can work with her on after lessons. It's been amazing to see her grow during these swim lessons. I will definitely be using Sunsational again next summer, and I hope we have Chris, again!

Connor J.

'Michelle is AMAZING! So patient and good with our son and he made amazing strides! I would 1000% recommend her to anyone and everyone!' -Michelle N.

Michelle N.

'Michelle is amazing, my older daughter has tried 5 swim teachers, with no luck. Michelle is the perfect combo of firm and fun. And not only are my daughters making progress, but are LOVING swim. They ask every morning if it's a 'Mrs Michelle day?' Because they are SAD when they don't have swim. This is the biggest win. Thank you, Michelle!!

Samantha F.

'We are very fortunate to have Krista as our swim instructor! She is very kind and patient when working with my 3 yo daughter who was very afraid of the water. Krista is creative and finds great exercises and techniques when it comes to teaching my daughter how to feel comfortable with learning how to swim. Thank you!' Erica Kofoed

Erica K.

Extremely happy. Shelby West gave my 3-year-old granddaughter swimming lessons during her short visit from out of town. She kept her interest by using various methods that were fun for her while teaching her basic pool safety and beginning swimming techniques. I only wish my granddaughter had been here longer so we could have had additional lessons.

Hillary K.

Aryan was great with our 2 year old!! Went from fear of getting her face wet to going completely under with no tears! He was always on time and we really appreciated his kindness. Highly recommend!

5 reasons to start swim lessons for your baby now

Many Addison parents wonder if their baby is too young to start learning to swim. They think babies will eventually learn the skills on their own, or that the skill isn’t necessary. Here’s why starting lessons early is a smart choice:

Water safety starts early

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under four. Babies are naturally curious, which is why baby swimming lessons make so much sense. An awareness of the water, and water safety skills, could very well save your child’s life one day.

Decreased risk of drowning

It’s impossible to watch over your children every second. Most daycare facilities have pool or splash days during the summer or have field trips that include water fun. Children can drown in less than 1 inch of water, particularly if the person is under the age of 4. Swimming lessons help decrease the risk of drowning.

Encourages social interaction

Swimming and playing in the pool with parents and other babies helps boost babies' social development.  Babies learn through shared experiences, laughter, and engaging in activities together. Your child shouldn't have to skip these character-forming moments due to a fear of the water or because you simply haven't found the time for swim lessons.

Builds their strength

For babies, swimming helps strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and enhance their motor skills – all without any unnecessary stress on joints. Plus, the water’s resistance provides a full-body workout, even for the tiniest of swimmers. Swimming may even help learn to walk sooner thanks to better muscle control.

Lifelong skill that starts early

Swimming is a skill for life. Providing your baby with swimming lessons opens up a whole new arena of fun and fitness that they can participate in all their lives. If you don't know how to swim, consider taking a parent and baby swim class together or taking adult swim lessons on your own. Create core memories in the water, together!

How parent and baby swim lessons help build confidence around the water

Babies as young as six months old benefit from pool time in the arms of a trusted adult. Infant swim lessons allow your child to enjoy the water before they have a chance to learn fear. Positive pool experiences help babies remain calm so they can progress to learn effective water navigation skills such as kicking and back floats.

How parent and baby swim lessons help image
75%of children who drown were out of sight for five minutes or less
9 out of 10drowning deaths occur while an adult is present

The benefits of swim lessons extend beyond the pool. The sensory and motor stimulation resulting from pool time creates new neurons that positively impact confidence and even intelligence. Bilateral movements, or using both sides of the body, help increase the connections between the two hemispheres of the brain, which will later help with skills like language development, spatial awareness and reading.

How to prepare your baby for swim lessons

Not ready for a formal class yet? Start at home! Simple activities in the bathtub, like gently pouring water over your baby’s head, introducing words like “kick” and “splash”, or laying them on their back in shallow water, can help them feel comfortable in the water before their first lesson.

When you’re ready for the pool, help your baby be successful with these tips:

  • 1
Feed them at least 30 minutes before a lesson to prevent tummy discomfort
  • 2
Pack essentials like swim diapers, towels, dry clothes, and fresh diapers
  • 3
Arrive early so you have time to get ready
  • 4
Ease into the water to keep the experience positive

Water safety is always the number one priority

Even the most comprehensive and successful water training program isn’t enough to drown-proof your child. Babies should always be within arm’s reach in the water, and children should never swim unsupervised. The goal of baby swimming lessons is to reduce the chance of accidental drowning, but it can’t guarantee to prevent it completely. Even if your little one was the star of the class, you should still be vigilant in your supervision to ensure that the water provides positive experiences for years to come.

Ive worked with children ages 19 months to 12 in both private and public lesson settings, helping them feel confident, safe, and strong in the water. I also specialize in training adults who are preparing for races or looking to improve their technique and endurance. My teaching style is calm, encouraging, and tailored to the individual. Whether your swimmer is just getting started or working toward a goal, Im here to support them!

Got questions?

We have answers. What age can babies start swim lessons?

No. Sunsational Swim School’s infant swim lessons are based on a child-centered and caring approach that focuses on building trust and rapport with the instructor and wonderment and respect of the water. When designing your baby’s swim lesson plan, our instructors consider all aspects of the well-being of your baby, including physical and emotional. Your swim instructor will create a safe environment for your baby to learn water-safety skills that include back floating, roll over breathing, “swim-float-swim”, the monkey crawl, and what to do after a fall into the pool. All of these skills are taught in a way that’s both fun and educational, using games, repetition, and even songs, at a pace that’s healthy for your little one.

Yes! Sunsational specializes in private, at-home baby swimming lessons, where our instructors come directly to your pool or community facility in Addison. It’s the easiest way for your baby to learn in a calm, familiar setting.

We make scheduling easy. Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend lessons are avaialble 6AM-8PM to fit your family’s lifestyle. You choose the days, times and number of lessons per week that works for you. Because all lessons are private, scheduling is completely flexible and can be adjusted for vacations or weather. In Addison, our instructors teach year-round, so you can start lessons whenever you’re ready.

Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Physical and emotional readiness, motor skills and willingness all play a role in the pace your baby learns. However, the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace we find is repetition and consistency. We recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression. Most of our students make significant progress within 12 to 18 lessons in our baby swim classes.

Yes. Swimming is not only defined as the four major swim strokes, but the ability to propel through the water. Your baby can learn how to use their little limbs, breathing and sense of direction to deliberately move from point a to b in the water, once they start walking. These skill sets are learned in a progressive manner and each child learns at a different pace. Our infant swim lesson teachers are experienced in coaching your baby to learn these skills in a fun, encouraging, and accelerated way. Even if your baby is not ready to swim, we'll work on swim and safety skills like blowing bubbles (breath control), kicking, rolling over onto our back and floating.

Your baby’s first swim lesson is designed to be gentle, fun, and completely pressure-free. The goal isn’t to make your baby swim right away—it’s to help them feel safe, happy, and relaxed in the water. Tears on the first day are not unexpected!

Your Sunsational instructor will start by introducing your baby to the pool gradually: gentle splashing, floating with support, and playful water exploration. Parents or caregivers are always encouraged to be present.

Most Addison parents begin lessons around 6 months old, when babies can comfortably hold their heads up and start exploring the water. Babies who have early exposure to swim lessons and the water are proven to have reduced anxieties and emotional obstacles learning how to swim. The water at this age is a familiar place as it’s similar to floating in the womb. Sunsational’s certified instructors offer private, at-home baby swimming lessons throughout Dallas, helping your little one feel confident and safe early on.

Absolutely. Every Sunsational instructor in Addison is certified in CPR and insured under our company liability insurance policy. What's more, every Sunsational swim instructor has a minimum of 2 season's of teaching experience. We emphasize comfort, floating, and water awareness—always at your baby’s pace.

Every child learns differently, but with consistent, one-on-one instruction, most Addison infants begin floating and showing swim readiness within our 12 or 18 lesson package. Sunsational’s personalized approach—taught in your own pool—helps babies progress faster than in group lessons. We find that the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace are repetition and consistency. To that end, we recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression.

For baby and some toddler lessons, parent participation is encouraged for building water comfort. For older children (typically ages 2+), parents are not specifically encouraged to be in the water, as our one-on-one private instruction is designed to build independence. However, we always require a responsible adult to be present on the premises for all lessons with minors. If you have specific preferences or concerns, our team is happy to accommodate them in your registration. We tailor each lesson to your comfort and goals.
