I have been swimming since I was about five years old with my local swim team and continued swimming competitively throughout my life, including on my high school swim team. I began coaching in high school, working with young swimmers from potty-trained age through swimmers becoming confident in the deep end. After graduating, I also coached with the Lake County Channel Cats, my local swim team back home, where I worked with beginners, young adults, and swimmers preparing for competition. Hello, my name is Alonso Martinez. I have been swimming now since September 2017 for almost 9 years, I played water polo and did competitive swimming as well as doing instructional swimming lessons/lifeguarding for 3+ years, but I was not always good enough to do any of these activities. Learning to swim for me began with some obstacles. I had a scary encounter when learning to swim that almost deterred me from it completely, but stuck with it and am here now. My past encounters have helped build the skill that allowed me to teach for the past 3+ years and has allowed me to understand the fear that someone has when learning aquatic skills.
