5-star rated by parents and swimmers alike

Brissy has been amazing with our almost 3 year old, who has a lot of spice. she has also worked with our five and seven year olds on strokes. We are so thankful luck to have found a fun, energetic swim instructor for our family.

Brigid G.

Eddie has been fantastic! I wasn't sure how it was going to go as my 21 month old boy tends to gravitate better towards women than men but he loves Eddie. He is so calm and patient with him and we are so grateful to have found him. We previously had one swim class at a well known swim facility and what he learned in the first lesson alone would have taken weeks with the previous facility.

Maryann S.

Alexa is amazing! On day one neither of my kids would even go in the water (lots of tears) and by day four she has them holding their breath, blowing bubbles, moving to the side of the pool and kicking around the pool. So incredible! Now there are tears when they have to get OUT of the water. She has a great way of working with both my kids, incorporating toys that they like while still making it valuable to learning to swim, not just playing. Highly recommend!

Lorissa S.

'Jacob is an amazing swim instructor! Our son is now 20 months and loves the time in the pool with Jacob. Jacob was extremely patient and eased him into learning the fundamentals of swimming. We are so happy with the results of his lessons and Jacob is the best teacher. He is so well liked by our family! Would definitely recommend him! Thank you for partnering Jacob with us! We are so pleased with his teaching our son to enjoy swimming!' Kimberly Cumella

Kimberly C.

Casey is amazing with kids! He was very easy to communicate with easy-going. My kids loved him and are swimmers now

Alexandra P.

'Sunsational Swim School has been so easy to work with. Our instructor Ethan is amazing! My daughter is very shy, and Ethan has taken the time to earn her trust while teaching her important swimming skills. She now asks for him when we go into the pool :)' Laura Panaro

Laura P.

Mark is absolutely wonderful. My kids were afraid to get their faces wet. But in a few short weeks, he has used gentle techniques to teach them to float, paddle, and even fully submerge, as well as important safety things like how to find the wall and climb out unassisted, and call for help. It's amazing. I'm confident that they will be water-safe before our lessons are done!!

Adrienne T.

Rachel has helped our daughter progress so much in the water. She has so much more confidence and is learning important swim and safety skills around our pool. It has also been wonderful to have her learn in our own pool.

Laura N.

'Coach Cece was wonderful! Our 2 year old loved lessons and she made him feel comfortable immediately. Coach Cece asked about our goals for the lessons and practiced skills each session that were appropriate for his age. Our toddler loves swimming and safety/caution around the pool was a huge priority - we saw a big difference after completing the lessons and are so thankful for her help!'

Nicole L.

'Coach Craig in South Orange County has been nothing short of amazing. He is SO patient with my little one and makes sure she always feels safe and comfortable before we try anything new. Highly recommend!'

Debbie M.

Miranda is an awesome instructor. She has Blakely going under water and kicking and blowing bubbles. 2 1/2 yrs old and is very comfortable with Miranda and her techniques.Great to see her progress

Karen D.

'Lyn does a great job with our 10-month-old grandson. She's very patient and makes the lesson very enjoyable for him. She's so great that we signed up for another 12 lessons!' -Lorrie K.

Lorrie K.

Clara was great with my 20 month old daughter. My daughter doesn't like going with new people but Clara was able to connect with her and she gained some great skills during our time together. I really appreciate everything that Clara taught my daughter as well as what she taught mom and dad! Thanks so much!

Julie C.

'Caliegha is an amazing instructor! She taught my 2 1/2 year old grand-daughter for 6 lessons and helped her to become truly comfortable in the water! Thank you!' -Marta M.

Marta M.

We were matched with Miss Jaqueline for swim lessons and absolutely love her! She was very flexible and always on time. She was amazing with my 2 1/2 year old son. He is fairly strong-willed and she remained patient with him always. She communicated with me about my goals for him and what was important to me to have him learn while also focusing on pool safety and basic skills. She brought fun/practical toys to really engage my son. Every time he did something that was being ask of him he then got to play for a minute before moving on to the next thing. My son went from hating back floats (kicking, crying, flailing his arms) to floating calmly and holding still on top of the water all by himself. She definitely knows how to motivate a stubborn 2 1/2 year old and make swimming a lot of fun! My son asks me all the time if Miss Jacqueline could come over to swim with him again.

Emily J.

'We loved having Delaney as our swim Instructor! She was so patient with my 2.5 year old granddaughter! She was encouraging and our grand daughter made great progress in just 1 week. We are definitely signing up for more lessons!' - Holli M.

Holli M.

'Jacob is AMAZING! It took a little while for us to get matched because our schedule is limited, but it was well worth the wait. We are thrilled with Jacob's patience, kindness, and knowledge. We have 2, 2 yos and a 5 yo doing lessons and he is so patient and wonderful with all three!' - Christina H.

Christina H.

Jacqueline has been a great instructor for our 3.5 year old. We have tried some other private classes before and for some reason our daughter was still not comfortable putting her face under the water. From the very first class Jacqueline was very understanding of her hesitations and bonded with her. Within few classes she was out of that fear and was diving deep down the pool to fetch toy sharks. Our overall experience has been great and we are very satisfied with the progress.Thank you Jacqueline!

Sujith S.

'Monica has formed such a great bond with our granddaughter and she is progressing nicely in her swim lessons and pool safety knowledge. We love Monica!'

'Our daughter started at newly 2 years old, and is more of a cautious observant temperament. Brissy was patient and creative at getting her comfortable with her and the water. She has developed a lot of confidence, comfort, and some introductory/ safety skills. Looking forward to warmer months in the spring to start back up.' -Emilie W

'Brissy is the absolute BEST! She was incredibly patient with my 2 & 4.5 year old, who weren't very excited to start swim lessons. By the end of the final lesson, my 4.5 year old was jumping in & swimming to Brissy with a smile on her face! And the 2 year old is excited to keep working on it :) -Lizzie D

Colin is a FANTASTIC swim instructor and we are so grateful to have worked with him. We started off with Sunsational with a not so great instructor experience and decided to pause until the next summer, when we were luckily matched with Colin. He was consistently early to our lesson time, brought fun toys that engaged our toddler, and Colin was great at trying different techniques when there were moments of toddler-resistance. Our son always looked forward to his lesson and was excited to see Colin every time. We highly recommend him!

Michelle W.

My 3 year old used to hate water in her face and often giving baths would lead to her crying. Nicole has been so kind and gentle with teaching her how to swim. Lila is more confident in the water now and she's learning that she can hold her breath in the water for longer. Nicole has made swimming fun, challenging, and has truly helped our daughter feel confident and happy with swimming. We will truly miss Nicole when the lessons are done! Nicole has been so easy to work with. She is so professional with being on time every time we have lessons. She is also good with rescheduling times for lessons. We are so glad Nicole is Lila's teacher! She has made this whole experience well worth it for us! We highly recommend her!

Cindy B.

Connie has been such an incredible swim instructor for my 2 year old son. He adores her, and in a few short weeks he's well on his way to becoming a wonderful swimmer!

ariane m.

Our swim instructor, Emmy, is doing a great job with my two and one half year old grandson. First day started out with a lot of crying. By the fifth day he was holding his breath and grabbing toys under water and kicking and pulling himself out of the pool. Emmy has done a great job considering his age, attention span and he is only learning how to talk and is hard to understand.

5 reasons to start swim lessons for your baby now

Many Ladera Ranch parents wonder if their baby is too young to start learning to swim. They think babies will eventually learn the skills on their own, or that the skill isn’t necessary. Here’s why starting lessons early is a smart choice:

Water safety starts early

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under four. Babies are naturally curious, which is why baby swimming lessons make so much sense. An awareness of the water, and water safety skills, could very well save your child’s life one day.

Decreased risk of drowning

It’s impossible to watch over your children every second. Most daycare facilities have pool or splash days during the summer or have field trips that include water fun. Children can drown in less than 1 inch of water, particularly if the person is under the age of 4. Swimming lessons help decrease the risk of drowning.

Encourages social interaction

Swimming and playing in the pool with parents and other babies helps boost babies' social development.  Babies learn through shared experiences, laughter, and engaging in activities together. Your child shouldn't have to skip these character-forming moments due to a fear of the water or because you simply haven't found the time for swim lessons.

Builds their strength

For babies, swimming helps strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and enhance their motor skills – all without any unnecessary stress on joints. Plus, the water’s resistance provides a full-body workout, even for the tiniest of swimmers. Swimming may even help learn to walk sooner thanks to better muscle control.

Lifelong skill that starts early

Swimming is a skill for life. Providing your baby with swimming lessons opens up a whole new arena of fun and fitness that they can participate in all their lives. If you don't know how to swim, consider taking a parent and baby swim class together or taking adult swim lessons on your own. Create core memories in the water, together!

How parent and baby swim lessons help build confidence around the water

Babies as young as six months old benefit from pool time in the arms of a trusted adult. Infant swim lessons allow your child to enjoy the water before they have a chance to learn fear. Positive pool experiences help babies remain calm so they can progress to learn effective water navigation skills such as kicking and back floats.

How parent and baby swim lessons help image
75%of children who drown were out of sight for five minutes or less
9 out of 10drowning deaths occur while an adult is present

The benefits of swim lessons extend beyond the pool. The sensory and motor stimulation resulting from pool time creates new neurons that positively impact confidence and even intelligence. Bilateral movements, or using both sides of the body, help increase the connections between the two hemispheres of the brain, which will later help with skills like language development, spatial awareness and reading.

How to prepare your baby for swim lessons

Not ready for a formal class yet? Start at home! Simple activities in the bathtub, like gently pouring water over your baby’s head, introducing words like “kick” and “splash”, or laying them on their back in shallow water, can help them feel comfortable in the water before their first lesson.

When you’re ready for the pool, help your baby be successful with these tips:

  • 1
Feed them at least 30 minutes before a lesson to prevent tummy discomfort
  • 2
Pack essentials like swim diapers, towels, dry clothes, and fresh diapers
  • 3
Arrive early so you have time to get ready
  • 4
Ease into the water to keep the experience positive

Water safety is always the number one priority

Even the most comprehensive and successful water training program isn’t enough to drown-proof your child. Babies should always be within arm’s reach in the water, and children should never swim unsupervised. The goal of baby swimming lessons is to reduce the chance of accidental drowning, but it can’t guarantee to prevent it completely. Even if your little one was the star of the class, you should still be vigilant in your supervision to ensure that the water provides positive experiences for years to come.

Hello future swimmers and parents! My name is Colin and I have been teaching people ages 3 - 21 how to have a safe and fun time in the water for 8 years. I have been working with children for 10 years now as a tutor, baby sitter, music mentor, and a volunteer through YMCA and OneOC. I went to UCSD and earned a bachelor's in music composition in 2016. I love teaching swimming because some of my best memories were created in the water and I want others to have similar lasting experiences. :)

Got questions?

We have answers. What age can babies start swim lessons?

No. Sunsational Swim School’s infant swim lessons are based on a child-centered and caring approach that focuses on building trust and rapport with the instructor and wonderment and respect of the water. When designing your baby’s swim lesson plan, our instructors consider all aspects of the well-being of your baby, including physical and emotional. Your swim instructor will create a safe environment for your baby to learn water-safety skills that include back floating, roll over breathing, “swim-float-swim”, the monkey crawl, and what to do after a fall into the pool. All of these skills are taught in a way that’s both fun and educational, using games, repetition, and even songs, at a pace that’s healthy for your little one.

Yes! Sunsational specializes in private, at-home baby swimming lessons, where our instructors come directly to your pool or community facility in Ladera Ranch. It’s the easiest way for your baby to learn in a calm, familiar setting.

We make scheduling easy. Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend lessons are avaialble 6AM-8PM to fit your family’s lifestyle. You choose the days, times and number of lessons per week that works for you. Because all lessons are private, scheduling is completely flexible and can be adjusted for vacations or weather. In Ladera Ranch, our instructors teach year-round, so you can start lessons whenever you’re ready.

Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Physical and emotional readiness, motor skills and willingness all play a role in the pace your baby learns. However, the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace we find is repetition and consistency. We recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression. Most of our students make significant progress within 12 to 18 lessons in our baby swim classes.

Yes. Swimming is not only defined as the four major swim strokes, but the ability to propel through the water. Your baby can learn how to use their little limbs, breathing and sense of direction to deliberately move from point a to b in the water, once they start walking. These skill sets are learned in a progressive manner and each child learns at a different pace. Our infant swim lesson teachers are experienced in coaching your baby to learn these skills in a fun, encouraging, and accelerated way. Even if your baby is not ready to swim, we'll work on swim and safety skills like blowing bubbles (breath control), kicking, rolling over onto our back and floating.

Your baby’s first swim lesson is designed to be gentle, fun, and completely pressure-free. The goal isn’t to make your baby swim right away—it’s to help them feel safe, happy, and relaxed in the water. Tears on the first day are not unexpected!

Your Sunsational instructor will start by introducing your baby to the pool gradually: gentle splashing, floating with support, and playful water exploration. Parents or caregivers are always encouraged to be present.

Most Ladera Ranch parents begin lessons around 6 months old, when babies can comfortably hold their heads up and start exploring the water. Babies who have early exposure to swim lessons and the water are proven to have reduced anxieties and emotional obstacles learning how to swim. The water at this age is a familiar place as it’s similar to floating in the womb. Sunsational’s certified instructors offer private, at-home baby swimming lessons throughout Orange County, helping your little one feel confident and safe early on.

Absolutely. Every Sunsational instructor in Ladera Ranch is certified in CPR and insured under our company liability insurance policy. What's more, every Sunsational swim instructor has a minimum of 2 season's of teaching experience. We emphasize comfort, floating, and water awareness—always at your baby’s pace.

Every child learns differently, but with consistent, one-on-one instruction, most Ladera Ranch infants begin floating and showing swim readiness within our 12 or 18 lesson package. Sunsational’s personalized approach—taught in your own pool—helps babies progress faster than in group lessons. We find that the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace are repetition and consistency. To that end, we recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression.

While we specialize in private, at-home infant swim classes in Ladera Ranch, you do not need to have a pool to register for our lessons. Our infant swim teachers near you can meet you at any pool of your choice in Orange County. In some areas, we even have some swim instructors who can provide a pool for your lessons. To find out if we have instructors with pool access in your specific area, you can begin a registration here

We understand if you're concerned about selecting the right swim instructor for your lessons, because we are too! Our full-time, dedicated matching team carefully reviews your registration and hand selects a swim instructor for your lessons based on your swimmer's age, goals and your schedule. But rest assured that we stand behind each of our swim instructors and selections with our Satisfaction Guarantee.

For baby and some toddler lessons, parent participation is encouraged for building water comfort. For older children (typically ages 2+), parents are not specifically encouraged to be in the water, as our one-on-one private instruction is designed to build independence. However, we always require a responsible adult to be present on the premises for all lessons with minors. If you have specific preferences or concerns, our team is happy to accommodate them in your registration. We tailor each lesson to your comfort and goals.
