After one lesson one year old girl was like a fish in water. We took the 12 class package and it was worth every penny.

Our entire experience with Sunsational Swim School has been nothing short of perfection! Signing up and matching with our instructor, Roman was quick and simple. The school was very quick and efficient to accommodate our scheduling requests. Roman is truly an amazing instructor. He is extremely patient with our son, who is very shy. We have made SO much progress with just 3 lessons! I am truly amazed and so happy that we went with Sunsational!!

Haeley B.

We loved working with Supuni. She was very knowledgeable and had innovative techniques to teach our son how to swim. Her patience and positive attitude really helped our son become comfortable in the pool. Supuni created each swim lesson based on our son's needs and experience. I would highly recommend working with her.

Erika F.

Riley is doing an awesome job. My kids love her to death. Glad we went with sunsational swim school.

Rebecca P.

Extremely happy. Shelby West gave my 3-year-old granddaughter swimming lessons during her short visit from out of town. She kept her interest by using various methods that were fun for her while teaching her basic pool safety and beginning swimming techniques. I only wish my granddaughter had been here longer so we could have had additional lessons.

Hillary K.

Megan is awesome! She has been super patient and sweet with my 18 month old son. She teaches in a way that is fun and memorable for him, and he is much more comfortable in the water. - Kristen Pineda

Kristen P.

We had a great experience with Shelby. She had a group of 3 15-18mo boys and kept them entertained the whole time. She had multiple games, songs and methods to get the boys comfortable in the water. I would highly recommend her and Sunsational

Brittany B.

Maryteresa was absolutely amazing. She taught my 2 year old how to swim and gave my 4 year old the much needed confidence he needed to continue learning more skills.

Katie N.

'Neely is so awesome! She's so easy to communicate with, and she's got this calm demeanor that relaxes my nervous (almost) 2 year old enough to get in the water with her. I'm a busy full time mom, student, and business owner and was struggling with balancing all that with swimming. I thought I could do it all! But that's not the case... the whole summer went by without me finding the time to teach my baby to swim. Summer is over but that's just enough time to get a month of lessons in, my biggest regret is not starting sooner! I say all this to say, JUST HIRE A PRIVATE COACH LIKE NEELY IF YOURE BUSY!! Your mental health will thank you for it and your child will learn invaluable life lessons that are just not smart to put off on the back burner. Neely arrives on time, ready to go and is extremely flexible around both my busy schedule and the wild Texas weather changes. I hope to have Neely around for a long time! So glad to have found Sunsational!' -Rachel C.

'Jaeden is amazing! my 2 year old son did not like the water. She made swimming so much fun. He asks me everyday if he can go swimming.' - LeTasha Pierre

LeTasha P.

'We're having a great experience with Sunsational Swim School. Our swim coach, Sarah, is kind and patient with our 3 yo and 8 month old swimmers. We started out with a 6 lesson package, but increased it because the girls seemed to really be thriving, and we believed more time would be beneficial to both. Our oldest has shown much progress on the safety actions and swimming overall. Our baby loves being in the water - a great first step. The company has been responsive to our inquiries as well. I highly recommend them and will use them next summer too.' - Domonique Hollins

Domonique H.

Chris has been awesome! He has been so great with my 7 month old. He works with her strengths, and he is very good at finding her level of comfort. He has even taught me some things that I can work with her on after lessons. It's been amazing to see her grow during these swim lessons. I will definitely be using Sunsational again next summer, and I hope we have Chris, again!

Connor J.

Kim just completed giving my 9-month-old granddaughter her last 4 swim lessons. Her enthusiasm, experience, and knowledge instructing your children were apparent from the start. In the last lesson, my granddaughter's biggest accomplishment was climbing out of the pool from the steps! I will request her if we get more lessons next year

Judy D.

We just finished a 12 lesson package with Shawn. She is amazing!! She taught my 2 1/2 year old, and we couldn't be happier. Shawn is a natural with kids and a joy to have spent part of our summer with!

Jessica D.

'Great experience with our instructor. She is easy to reach, flexible, on time, patient, fun and kind. Would highly recommend!' - Clarissa P.

Clarissa N.

Tucker was absolutely AMAZING with our almost 3 year old. He took her from swimming with floaties to swimming proficiently around the pool, under the water and diving to get toys off the bottom in just 18 lessons. She loves him!! He was patience, gentle, reassuring and built trust with her but also pushed her just enough to achieve the growth and confidence we see in her now in the pool. Could not be happier with our investment.

Katie A.

Shelby was patient and flexible. I really appreciate how compassionate and joyful she was with our toddler. He loved swim lessons with her.

Sarah H.

So thankful for Ms. Courtney! She is patient and kind and a great instructor. We would definitely use her again.

5 reasons to start swim lessons for your baby now

Many Mckinney parents wonder if their baby is too young to start learning to swim. They think babies will eventually learn the skills on their own, or that the skill isn’t necessary. Here’s why starting lessons early is a smart choice:

Water safety starts early

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under four. Babies are naturally curious, which is why baby swimming lessons make so much sense. An awareness of the water, and water safety skills, could very well save your child’s life one day.

Decreased risk of drowning

It’s impossible to watch over your children every second. Most daycare facilities have pool or splash days during the summer or have field trips that include water fun. Children can drown in less than 1 inch of water, particularly if the person is under the age of 4. Swimming lessons help decrease the risk of drowning.

Encourages social interaction

Swimming and playing in the pool with parents and other babies helps boost babies' social development.  Babies learn through shared experiences, laughter, and engaging in activities together. Your child shouldn't have to skip these character-forming moments due to a fear of the water or because you simply haven't found the time for swim lessons.

Builds their strength

For babies, swimming helps strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and enhance their motor skills – all without any unnecessary stress on joints. Plus, the water’s resistance provides a full-body workout, even for the tiniest of swimmers. Swimming may even help learn to walk sooner thanks to better muscle control.

Lifelong skill that starts early

Swimming is a skill for life. Providing your baby with swimming lessons opens up a whole new arena of fun and fitness that they can participate in all their lives. If you don't know how to swim, consider taking a parent and baby swim class together or taking adult swim lessons on your own. Create core memories in the water, together!

How parent and baby swim lessons help build confidence around the water

Babies as young as six months old benefit from pool time in the arms of a trusted adult. Infant swim lessons allow your child to enjoy the water before they have a chance to learn fear. Positive pool experiences help babies remain calm so they can progress to learn effective water navigation skills such as kicking and back floats.

How parent and baby swim lessons help image
75%of children who drown were out of sight for five minutes or less
9 out of 10drowning deaths occur while an adult is present

The benefits of swim lessons extend beyond the pool. The sensory and motor stimulation resulting from pool time creates new neurons that positively impact confidence and even intelligence. Bilateral movements, or using both sides of the body, help increase the connections between the two hemispheres of the brain, which will later help with skills like language development, spatial awareness and reading.

How to prepare your baby for swim lessons

Not ready for a formal class yet? Start at home! Simple activities in the bathtub, like gently pouring water over your baby’s head, introducing words like “kick” and “splash”, or laying them on their back in shallow water, can help them feel comfortable in the water before their first lesson.

When you’re ready for the pool, help your baby be successful with these tips:

  • 1
Feed them at least 30 minutes before a lesson to prevent tummy discomfort
  • 2
Pack essentials like swim diapers, towels, dry clothes, and fresh diapers
  • 3
Arrive early so you have time to get ready
  • 4
Ease into the water to keep the experience positive

Water safety is always the number one priority

Even the most comprehensive and successful water training program isn’t enough to drown-proof your child. Babies should always be within arm’s reach in the water, and children should never swim unsupervised. The goal of baby swimming lessons is to reduce the chance of accidental drowning, but it can’t guarantee to prevent it completely. Even if your little one was the star of the class, you should still be vigilant in your supervision to ensure that the water provides positive experiences for years to come.

Got questions?

We have answers. What age can babies start swim lessons?

No. Sunsational Swim School’s infant swim lessons are based on a child-centered and caring approach that focuses on building trust and rapport with the instructor and wonderment and respect of the water. When designing your baby’s swim lesson plan, our instructors consider all aspects of the well-being of your baby, including physical and emotional. Your swim instructor will create a safe environment for your baby to learn water-safety skills that include back floating, roll over breathing, “swim-float-swim”, the monkey crawl, and what to do after a fall into the pool. All of these skills are taught in a way that’s both fun and educational, using games, repetition, and even songs, at a pace that’s healthy for your little one.

Yes! Sunsational specializes in private, at-home baby swimming lessons, where our instructors come directly to your pool or community facility in Mckinney. It’s the easiest way for your baby to learn in a calm, familiar setting.

We make scheduling easy. Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend lessons are avaialble 6AM-8PM to fit your family’s lifestyle. You choose the days, times and number of lessons per week that works for you. Because all lessons are private, scheduling is completely flexible and can be adjusted for vacations or weather. In Mckinney, our instructors teach year-round, so you can start lessons whenever you’re ready.

Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Physical and emotional readiness, motor skills and willingness all play a role in the pace your baby learns. However, the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace we find is repetition and consistency. We recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression. Most of our students make significant progress within 12 to 18 lessons in our baby swim classes.

Yes. Swimming is not only defined as the four major swim strokes, but the ability to propel through the water. Your baby can learn how to use their little limbs, breathing and sense of direction to deliberately move from point a to b in the water, once they start walking. These skill sets are learned in a progressive manner and each child learns at a different pace. Our infant swim lesson teachers are experienced in coaching your baby to learn these skills in a fun, encouraging, and accelerated way. Even if your baby is not ready to swim, we'll work on swim and safety skills like blowing bubbles (breath control), kicking, rolling over onto our back and floating.

Your baby’s first swim lesson is designed to be gentle, fun, and completely pressure-free. The goal isn’t to make your baby swim right away—it’s to help them feel safe, happy, and relaxed in the water. Tears on the first day are not unexpected!

Your Sunsational instructor will start by introducing your baby to the pool gradually: gentle splashing, floating with support, and playful water exploration. Parents or caregivers are always encouraged to be present.

Most Mckinney parents begin lessons around 6 months old, when babies can comfortably hold their heads up and start exploring the water. Babies who have early exposure to swim lessons and the water are proven to have reduced anxieties and emotional obstacles learning how to swim. The water at this age is a familiar place as it’s similar to floating in the womb. Sunsational’s certified instructors offer private, at-home baby swimming lessons throughout Dallas, helping your little one feel confident and safe early on.

Absolutely. Every Sunsational instructor in Mckinney is certified in CPR and insured under our company liability insurance policy. What's more, every Sunsational swim instructor has a minimum of 2 season's of teaching experience. We emphasize comfort, floating, and water awareness—always at your baby’s pace.

Every child learns differently, but with consistent, one-on-one instruction, most Mckinney infants begin floating and showing swim readiness within our 12 or 18 lesson package. Sunsational’s personalized approach—taught in your own pool—helps babies progress faster than in group lessons. We find that the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace are repetition and consistency. To that end, we recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression.

For baby and some toddler lessons, parent participation is encouraged for building water comfort. For older children (typically ages 2+), parents are not specifically encouraged to be in the water, as our one-on-one private instruction is designed to build independence. However, we always require a responsible adult to be present on the premises for all lessons with minors. If you have specific preferences or concerns, our team is happy to accommodate them in your registration. We tailor each lesson to your comfort and goals.
