As a first time client, i was not sure what to expect but upon meeting Sheris, she is just the right instructor we're looking for. She had to teach 2 kids (6yr old and 4 yr old) and she knew exactly how to get them motivated to learn. Both of my girls are so comfortable now being in the water and learned so much from her. The swim guarantee program helped too. They're not in the same level but the little one is catching up to her big sis. Both are still learning, but a lot of progress has been made.

'Eli has been an amazing instructor!! Her style is so adaptable with both of our kids, who are two different ages, abilities and temperaments. She is kind, fun, but gets then to learn and do things out of their comfort zone. Can't say enough great things about her!!' -Leslie W.

Cassidy is patient and a great teacher. My three year old is getting closer to swimming every lesson.

Our swim teacher Maile is amazing! She's dependable, always comes on time with a positive attitude, lots of energy and smiles. I was impressed that she brought toys and treats for our daughter. Her sunny disposition allowed my toddler daughter to take to her immediately. Her bright personality encourages my daughter to make progress in her swim lessons. I would highly recommend Maile and Sunsational Swim School!

Lindsay S.

We love Krystal!! She's so great and patient with our little swimmers! She was also very flexible with our scheduling. Highly recommended!

LeAngela S.

'Christopher is so patient and kind with our sun. We cannot believe the progress made over such a short time. Truly impressed and grateful. We will be continuing lessons with him.' -Elizabeth U.

Lara was super flexible with our schedule and our son had a great experience as well. My wife and I couldn't have been more satisfied with everything including the convenience of hosting a private swim lesson right in our backyard. The price was very reasonable, A+ and we hope to hook it again next summer.

Trish A.

McKenna came out to do our lessons for our triplet babies. She was great. Even though the babies were crying, she was able to calm the down and stop their crying by using toys. I highly recommend Sunsational Swim School. Thanks.

Charles S.

'Levi was so unbelievably patient and kind with our 22 month old. He was encouraging, positive, and did everything in his power to ensure our kiddo was comfortable with him and made progress in his skill building. I could not have asked for a better match. Thank you, Levi!' Sarah Score

'Sunsational Swim School was easy to work with and very accommodating for our schedule. Our swim instructor, Jaida, was friendly and always came with a smile for our son. Jaida did a great job introducing our son to the water and getting him closer to swimming. By the end of his lessons, he was happily playing with her and gaining confidence in the skills needed to swim.' - Susan J.

Melodie has been phenomenal. My son (5) and daughter (13mos) are taking lessons with Melodie and she has been wonderful. She is incredibly patient with both kids and has a fun, positive attitude. She keeps things fun for them while also making sure they are learning the skills they need in order to be able to swim. She's always on time and is easy to communicate with. I would highly recommend Melodie!

Juliette T.

We finished the last two lessons in our package with another instructor, Kristy, and she was incredible! My 2-year-old son is very shy and never let our previous instructor hold him in the water, but Kristy had him kicking and paddling back and forth while she held him by the end of our first 30-minute lesson with her. When she saw that my daughter was a strong swimmer she came back the next day with all kinds of fun tools and ways to help refine her strokes and improve her form. The improvement both my kids made over just two lessons was amazing, and Kristy was very kind and warm, too.

Elizabeth R.

Coach Bryan was incredibly patient and engaging with my 22-month-old, helping him build confidence and learn essential swimming skills. He also gave me practical tips to keep practicing with him outside of lessons. He genuinely cared and has a great understanding of how to work with little ones. I’d highly recommend him to any parent.

'Monica has been a wonderful swim instructor to our kids!! They are having a lot of fun with her and learning proper swim strokes and feeling much more confident in the water!!' - Candace R.

Candace C.

We love Erin! She's great with our two kids. My toddler was hesitant to go in the pool at first but Erin worked with her and now she's happy going in the pool. My five-year-old went from only using floaties to being able to swim the length of the pool. Erin is great with the kids and super easy to coordinate with. Definitely recommend her.

Tara W.

'Sydney has been a great instructor for our family. She tailors the lessons to match my kids personalities and interests to keep them engaged.' Melissa Lane

Melissa L.

Aiden has been wonderful! My son really grew to love him and they had a lot of fun in the water together. Aiden has a lot of patience, especially on the days where my son refused to stay in the water! But I was always impressed with his ability to stay calm and motivate him to keep swimming. Teaching a 2-3 year old to swim is hard work! Highly recommend Aiden if your looking for private lessons for your toddler

Laura D.

Aiden was great. Very patient with my 2.5 yo son. Polite, professional and always on time.

Brittany P.

Our Sunsational swim instructor, Neda, is very accommodating and understands the needs of our little one. He is 9 months old and new to swimming and she is teaching him so much! He loves the water, but hesitant around strangers and she is very patient with him.

Rachel F.

We loved our experience with Quinlan at Sunsational Swim School! Quinlan’s sweet gentle nature was perfect for our daughter. Our 2 year old made great progress and was ultimately able to swim around the pool kicking with just a pool noodle after just 6 lessons. Quinlan was very communicative, respectful and punctual. Highly recommend!

Christine F.

Allie is wonderful with my 21 month old granddaughter. She is very poised, professional and knowledgeable

Kathleen C.

'We've truly enjoyed our time with Brooklen. She is extremely thoughtful and accommodating to our young toddler. She makes learning very enjoyable and goes above and beyond to make our little one feel comfortable. She's great at altering our swim lesson if our child is apprehensive or under the weather, which can happen with a young toddler. Her communication is top tier which we so appreciate since our days can get hectic. Will book Brooklen again next season and look forward to it!' amanda rodriguez

Nicole was amazing! Patient and cheerful and excellent with my 3-year-old! They did games and skills and he learned a lot! My main focus was safety at his age and I wanted her to work on summing to exits (stairs, walls) and on breathing.

Winlyn A.

'The matching program is awesome, saved a lot of our time to find the reliable coach, Kyle is so nice and experienced. The 3 year boy mentioned his name all the time after the class, and eager to get in the water when he aw Coach Kyle walking in.' Rikki Zhang

Rikki Z.

I have twins and at first they had stranger danger, but Vlad has been SO patient and warm welcoming to my babies that they are finally warming up! He has gone above and beyond to do anything to get my babies to warm up with him. It is working and I'm seeing improvement every class! He is wonderful. Even if at the end they don't know how to swim, I am very pleased with him and it is getting my babies comfortable with being in the water. I would definitely recommend!

Brianna E.

Summer is AMAZING. She’s amazing with kids, a great communicator and great to work with. She’s super patient with our kiddo but also helps push her to move past her fears. We love working with her and would recommend her to anyone (especially with littles)! - Hannah Lee

We feel very fortunate to have our 14 month-old training with Miss Jaye. She is persistent with our ambivalent son, and he has made incredible progress in the swimming pool these past few months. She is caring and experienced. She did her utmost to accommodate my schedule so that I could be present for the lessons instead of relying on our nannies solely. Thank you very much Miss Jaye!

5 reasons to start swim lessons for your baby now

Many San Francisco Peninsula parents wonder if their baby is too young to start learning to swim. They think babies will eventually learn the skills on their own, or that the skill isn’t necessary. Here’s why starting lessons early is a smart choice:

Water safety starts early

Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death for children under four. Babies are naturally curious, which is why baby swimming lessons make so much sense. An awareness of the water, and water safety skills, could very well save your child’s life one day.

Decreased risk of drowning

It’s impossible to watch over your children every second. Most daycare facilities have pool or splash days during the summer or have field trips that include water fun. Children can drown in less than 1 inch of water, particularly if the person is under the age of 4. Swimming lessons help decrease the risk of drowning.

Encourages social interaction

Swimming and playing in the pool with parents and other babies helps boost babies' social development.  Babies learn through shared experiences, laughter, and engaging in activities together. Your child shouldn't have to skip these character-forming moments due to a fear of the water or because you simply haven't found the time for swim lessons.

Builds their strength

For babies, swimming helps strengthen their muscles, improve coordination, and enhance their motor skills – all without any unnecessary stress on joints. Plus, the water’s resistance provides a full-body workout, even for the tiniest of swimmers. Swimming may even help learn to walk sooner thanks to better muscle control.

Lifelong skill that starts early

Swimming is a skill for life. Providing your baby with swimming lessons opens up a whole new arena of fun and fitness that they can participate in all their lives. If you don't know how to swim, consider taking a parent and baby swim class together or taking adult swim lessons on your own. Create core memories in the water, together!

How parent and baby swim lessons help build confidence around the water

Babies as young as six months old benefit from pool time in the arms of a trusted adult. Infant swim lessons allow your child to enjoy the water before they have a chance to learn fear. Positive pool experiences help babies remain calm so they can progress to learn effective water navigation skills such as kicking and back floats.

How parent and baby swim lessons help image
75%of children who drown were out of sight for five minutes or less
9 out of 10drowning deaths occur while an adult is present

The benefits of swim lessons extend beyond the pool. The sensory and motor stimulation resulting from pool time creates new neurons that positively impact confidence and even intelligence. Bilateral movements, or using both sides of the body, help increase the connections between the two hemispheres of the brain, which will later help with skills like language development, spatial awareness and reading.

How to prepare your baby for swim lessons

Not ready for a formal class yet? Start at home! Simple activities in the bathtub, like gently pouring water over your baby’s head, introducing words like “kick” and “splash”, or laying them on their back in shallow water, can help them feel comfortable in the water before their first lesson.

When you’re ready for the pool, help your baby be successful with these tips:

  • 1
Feed them at least 30 minutes before a lesson to prevent tummy discomfort
  • 2
Pack essentials like swim diapers, towels, dry clothes, and fresh diapers
  • 3
Arrive early so you have time to get ready
  • 4
Ease into the water to keep the experience positive

Water safety is always the number one priority

Even the most comprehensive and successful water training program isn’t enough to drown-proof your child. Babies should always be within arm’s reach in the water, and children should never swim unsupervised. The goal of baby swimming lessons is to reduce the chance of accidental drowning, but it can’t guarantee to prevent it completely. Even if your little one was the star of the class, you should still be vigilant in your supervision to ensure that the water provides positive experiences for years to come.

Im eager to fill my time between college classes by teaching you how to swim. My goal is that through lessons with me, you will come to appreciate water safety while also having fun! What makes me a great teacher is my cheerfulness in the water, my flexibility with varying levels of skill, and my patience. I look forward to teaching you!

Got questions?

We have answers. What age can babies start swim lessons?

No. Sunsational Swim School’s infant swim lessons are based on a child-centered and caring approach that focuses on building trust and rapport with the instructor and wonderment and respect of the water. When designing your baby’s swim lesson plan, our instructors consider all aspects of the well-being of your baby, including physical and emotional. Your swim instructor will create a safe environment for your baby to learn water-safety skills that include back floating, roll over breathing, “swim-float-swim”, the monkey crawl, and what to do after a fall into the pool. All of these skills are taught in a way that’s both fun and educational, using games, repetition, and even songs, at a pace that’s healthy for your little one.

Yes! Sunsational specializes in private, at-home baby swimming lessons, where our instructors come directly to your pool or community facility in San Francisco Peninsula. It’s the easiest way for your baby to learn in a calm, familiar setting.

We make scheduling easy. Morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend lessons are avaialble 6AM-8PM to fit your family’s lifestyle. You choose the days, times and number of lessons per week that works for you. Because all lessons are private, scheduling is completely flexible and can be adjusted for vacations or weather. In San Francisco Peninsula, our instructors teach year-round, so you can start lessons whenever you’re ready.

Every child is unique and develops at their own pace. Physical and emotional readiness, motor skills and willingness all play a role in the pace your baby learns. However, the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace we find is repetition and consistency. We recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression. Most of our students make significant progress within 12 to 18 lessons in our baby swim classes.

Yes. Swimming is not only defined as the four major swim strokes, but the ability to propel through the water. Your baby can learn how to use their little limbs, breathing and sense of direction to deliberately move from point a to b in the water, once they start walking. These skill sets are learned in a progressive manner and each child learns at a different pace. Our infant swim lesson teachers are experienced in coaching your baby to learn these skills in a fun, encouraging, and accelerated way. Even if your baby is not ready to swim, we'll work on swim and safety skills like blowing bubbles (breath control), kicking, rolling over onto our back and floating.

Your baby’s first swim lesson is designed to be gentle, fun, and completely pressure-free. The goal isn’t to make your baby swim right away—it’s to help them feel safe, happy, and relaxed in the water. Tears on the first day are not unexpected!

Your Sunsational instructor will start by introducing your baby to the pool gradually: gentle splashing, floating with support, and playful water exploration. Parents or caregivers are always encouraged to be present.

Most San Francisco Peninsula parents begin lessons around 6 months old, when babies can comfortably hold their heads up and start exploring the water. Babies who have early exposure to swim lessons and the water are proven to have reduced anxieties and emotional obstacles learning how to swim. The water at this age is a familiar place as it’s similar to floating in the womb. Sunsational’s certified instructors offer private, at-home baby swimming lessons throughout San Francisco Peninsula, helping your little one feel confident and safe early on.

Absolutely. Every Sunsational instructor in San Francisco Peninsula is certified in CPR and insured under our company liability insurance policy. What's more, every Sunsational swim instructor has a minimum of 2 season's of teaching experience. We emphasize comfort, floating, and water awareness—always at your baby’s pace.

Every child learns differently, but with consistent, one-on-one instruction, most San Francisco Peninsula infants begin floating and showing swim readiness within our 12 or 18 lesson package. Sunsational’s personalized approach—taught in your own pool—helps babies progress faster than in group lessons. We find that the most common and most influential factors in the student’s learning pace are repetition and consistency. To that end, we recommend our baby students take 3 lessons per week for maximum skill retention and fast progression.

For baby and some toddler lessons, parent participation is encouraged for building water comfort. For older children (typically ages 2+), parents are not specifically encouraged to be in the water, as our one-on-one private instruction is designed to build independence. However, we always require a responsible adult to be present on the premises for all lessons with minors. If you have specific preferences or concerns, our team is happy to accommodate them in your registration. We tailor each lesson to your comfort and goals.
