How Swimming Lessons Can Lead to Improved Intellectual Benefits

Deep Water, Deep Intellect

For young swimmers, preschoolers and children just starting on their swimming lessons, the importance of learning to conquer fear and achieve past limitations is a highly sought out yet attainable skill. Swimming allows these individuals, at such a young and impressionable age, to develop three key intellectual benefits. These benefits, among many other potential advantages, are the ability to think critically. Another key skill swimming will help promote is the use of rhythmical sync, and the last but not least important intellectual advantage is social construction.

Swimming will coerce any individual to utilize almost all their senses to efficiently be able to swim and continue to advance is either still or rough waters. Swimming is a continual skill, requiring constant practice and innovative mental ability in order to challenge oneself in becoming a better swimmer. Thinking Critically is a huge factor in how an individual, novice or expert, performs in water. For a beginner the ability to think how to stay afloat, while peddling their legs and alternating arms, may seem intimidating. Critical thinking will come as a defense mechanism when new simmers panic and low the momentum and start sinking. This skill also keeps advance swimmers aware of their dangerous surrounding in events of rapid or rough waters. The ability to instantly think about the critical life saving ideas must be developed quickly in order to prevent any harm. The key is to constantly challenge oneself while swimming, in order to shock the central nervous system and build this critical thinking skill.

Swimming Helps Build Critical Thinking

Another skill, which closely ties in with critical thinking is Rhythmical Sync. The ability to move in motion simultaneously while swimming laps. This skill will be developed with habit. In order for a new swimmer to sharpen their syncing abilities, they must practice their breathing techniques as well as the rotation of their arms while peddling their legs. It is very difficult at first and may seem overwhelming to constantly monitor such a variety of aspects in order to make headway while swimming. However, with constant practice, rhythm will become second nature, and the ability to sync the entire body as a well oiled machine concurrently moving all body functions (including the mind) to swim better laps.

Swimming Helps Develop Adaptability with Ones Surroundings

The final skill to mention, is on the highest level of importance within the grand scheme of intellectual nature. The ability to adapt with the surrounding, swimmers, environment, and water. This skill, Social Construction, will operate on the effectiveness of the previously mentioned skills a new simmer will adapt or old swimmer will sharpen. The key here is to utilize all the intellectual components acquired and productively associate with other swimmers who can benefit and share their own intellectual accomplishments, skills, tips and tricks!

Having many home movies of me at 2 years old running towards crashing waves, it’s no mystery swimming is truly sensational for me. I began professionally swimming and instructing others for 10 years now. I have been a lifeguard working seasonal shifts and teaching private and public lessons to people of all ages. I am athletic and very fluid in the water, lessons will go by swimmingly! My work is excellent with first timers who may have a tough time adjusting to the water – so rough waters are a thing of the past! I also train with avid swimmers who need specialized coaching to touch up their skills. Swim on by!
